day 18

today was actually a lot less stressful then I had thought. once I got the poster printed I edited my magazine more and did the finishing touches. I decided that I wanted to make my cover a little bit more detailed and so I added some more buzzwords. I've been so tired lately, from going to bed late and waking up early and just the overall stretch of getting work done so it will feel nice to finally relax but I'm going to miss everyone here and New York and just everything, it's the most amazing city in the world.

day fourteen

today we worked on the computers which was terribly boring and I'm very bad at it. then we did our last painting in Paul's class! I was so happy because I never have to paint again!!!!

day fifteen

today was 6 hours of computer work. I can't even begin to explain how hard it is. but I am getting the hang of it, I just hope my magazine turns out the way I want it too. my group members is really good and she's being really rude to me and won't help at all and I hate her. she is a word I won't say here.

day sixteen

today was very long and stressful...I redid my cube drawing for the fifth time and we worked on paintings of our dress which I finished pretty early. I didn't love what I did but I wasent feeling like redoing it. it's so hard to be neat with paint I don't understand how Paul can do it so well, I can't paint within the lines even with artists tape.

day thirteen

today was very hectic. we had our photoshoot in the morning and then later on we worked on our cube paintings that are very difficult for me and I stayed almost two and a half of hours after class was finished to work on my painting...which I started over 4 times. it was very hot again so I'm super tired and  ill just leave it at that. I literally took no photos today so Im just going to put a picture of my home because I miss it a lot.

day twelve

today we went to the googenhiem! (I have no idea how to spell that...) my favorite part was this spiral infa red lighting that changed every few minutes. it was really beautiful. then we went back to the met at one which I surprisingly really enjoyed. I found a few of my new favorite paintings, and I also saw the original painting of a replica I have in my living room at home! it was so cool being on the upper east side because Blair Waldorf my absolute idol slash person I aspire to be lives there in the tv show gossip girl. I wish we could have gone to Central Park even though it was extremely hot out, it was such a nice day to draw outside!

day eleven

today we worked on the smaller details of our dress like what shoes, what undershirt, what accessories and all of the finishing touches. we put the dress on the model and it looks actually really good. the texture of the skirt with the soft flower texture on top creates an amazing contrast that is my favorite part. in Paul's class we learned more about colors in detail. we are currently drawing the hue circle which is pretty difficult but not as bad as the grey scale! pretty hot out so I'm hoping for some cooler weather tomorrow when we go to the museum!

goodnight lower east side

Day nine

Today we went to the MOMA. It was amazing to see all the original artwork of famous artists like Matisse and Picasso. I also learned about new artists that I never knew about. Here are some of my favorite pieces:
Afte that we
After that we went to go draw sculptures.

Day ten

Today I finished my dress! It looks so much better then I could ever hope for. In Paul's class we learned how to draw using the value and shadows and painting everything that is 50% grey completely black. I also bought a new dress.

Day eight

Today In franks class we kept working on our dress, and frank told me about how the design process is really about letting go of the original sketches and being open to what will happen, and that the original sketches are really just the base for the garmet to grow off of. In Paul's class we worked on drawing these three dimensional cubes and shapes. IT WAS SO CONFUSING AND IT SEEMED LIKE EVERYONE IN THE CLASS GOT IT EXCEPT FOR ME AND I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT I WAS DOING WRONG, so frustrating...hopefully ill get a little better at that! There was also a lecture at lunch from these two fashion designers that was very interesting and they talked a lot about inspiration which I learned has a big part in the design process. I also got my nails done.

Day seven

We finally found a solution to the top part of our dress: duck tape! We tried multiple different ways of weaving the wires through the dress but nothing worked. It was so frustrating but I'm glad we found a solution. I was ready to give up and come up with something new but frank encouraged us to keep trying, and he was right. In Paul's class we started working on our grey scale, which was so difficult mainly because I didn't understand how we were supposed to know if it was the exact middle grey color. It took me a solid 3 hours to get one grey color down and the grid.  The magazine part was surprisingly easy

Day six

Today we worked on our outfits for Franks class. It was cool to see it all start to come together. The only part that was frustrating was the top, and to be honest I don't know if we will be able to pull it off. I learned that you can really make anything be a fashion statement, whether it's a metal skirt made out of wire that's put on your head as a hat, or a coil of wire wrapped around your neck as a scarf. I wish my group listened to my ideas more because i think i could really contribute but there both very strong leaders so its hard to get anything across to them. In Paul's class we learned how to draw with charcoal and instead of using lines we used the grey areas and lighter areas to create the general shape and lines of the body. It was very messy, but I really enjoyed it and liked the way mine turned out.

Day five

Today we came up with the rough sketch of our dress which is really exiting. We are planning on making the top part out of metal wire which will definitely be difficult but I think we are up for the challenge. We then went out and bought the material that we needed. I really enjoyed Paul's class today because i thought that the camo pattern was really fun to paint, and I liked the way my drawing turned out. I'm hoping I can get more rest this week then I did last week.

Third day

Today was only accomplished because of the two cups of coffee I had. Jet lag has been so difficult and I can't seem to get into the New York time frame. Today in Franks class we learned a lot of technical things like photoshop, adobe bridge, and adobe illustrator. At first I was so confused but I finally got the hang of it. In Paul's class we learned a way to pain the silhouette that was really time consuming but looked so cool in the end! I'm feeling pretty stressed out because of all the homework but exited for the Fourth of July, the weekend and the met!
(This one was posted on Wednesday but didn't go through)

Day four

The met was amazing! My favorite part was the punk exhibit. It was done so well, everything from the lighting to the movies, to the outfits, to the hair was fantastic. I think the Punk exhibit have me a few ideas of what I want our groups dress to resemble. Punk should definitely come back! We then went to a greek exhibit which was beautiful. There were hundreds of statues and it made me feel like I was in Rome. After the Greek exhibit we went to an armory exhibit which was interesting but since we had to draw something from it, I became very upset because my drawing did not at all come out the way I wanted it to. I felt kind of like a failure because everyone around me was making these amazing and detailed art pieces, where as mine looked  terrible. I wish drawing and art came to me naturally but it doesn't. I also got in trouble with Paul and I don't think he likes me very much. The last exhibit was African. There were many different sculptures made out of rock and wood and my favorite one was this large tree shaped statue in the middle of the exhibit that was made out of wood. It was easy to draw, and it was even more magical with the light from the window looming in and glowing through it.

Second day

I can't believe it's only Tuesday! I feel like I've been here for weeks. Today was really fun and I feel more comfortable in my drawing skills which is something I didn't except from myself. In Franks class we continued to work on our projects. We went out to our location and collected artifacts, made rubbings and sketches and also took some photographs. When we got back we plotted all of our ideas and thoughts about our location on a type of map that I forget the name of. In Paul's class we did fast motion moving sketches of a nude male model. I've never done an art class but I didn't feel completely incompetent. Paul reminded us that it wasn't suppose to be Michael Angelo which just reminded me that I was there to learn how to draw not to show off my skills or impress anyone. I learned a lot about drawing and different ways to make the drawing accurately plotted which is something I struggle with. I also learned a lot more about my peers and myself as an individual. When you step outside of your life at home and all your usual habits, you start to see the person you are more clearly and your able to differentiate who you are at home with the morals your given from your parents and the pressures from your society, than who you truly are. I believe I'll begin to find more and more of the person I am in this next month.

First Day

Today we went over the goals and requirements of the course. We analyzed different photographs  and paintings that showed color, shape, value, etc. I learned that this course is very rigorous, yet I'm exited to see what lies in store for me. I'm very nervous for the drawing and painting part of the class because I have absolutely no experience in those areas...so it will definitely be challenging. I know it will be a struggle, but I'm going to try my best and thats all I can really do now. My group and I walked all over union square and found this children's park which we decided to use as our location. I think it will be a very interesting piece and I'm exited to see what will come out of it.
